Finally the noble Olympic torch has made its entry at a lavish and wonderful ceremony in Beijing, after reaching the city all the way from Athens. The ceremony was honored by the mighty presence of the Chinese President Hu Jintao, who himself took part in the event at the Tiananmen Square to welcome the torch to the city, the host city of the 2008 Olympics in the month of August. The event was marked by the presence of tight security at the square to thwart any disturbance, keeping in mind the surge of anti-government protests in the recent days.
It should be remembered that on the very last week violent clashes were reported between protesters to China's actions in Tibet with police at the lighting ceremony in Greece.
Speaking on the graciousness of the event Minos Kyriakou, President of the Hellenic Olympic Committee said, “The Olympic flame is the timeless symbol which stirs admiration, pride and faith [in] the Olympic ideals and values."
